DRIVE

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS!!!! Have you seen Drive, starring babe of all babes Ryan Gosling? No? GO RIGHT NOW. It is one of the most BEAUTIFUL films I've seen in a long time (but warning: super, super violent and bloody) and the images on screen coupled with the BRILLIANTLY selected soundtrack make pure movie magic. Here are three jams from the movie that I found especially awesome:

"Real Hero," by College featuring Electric Youth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DSVDcw6iW8

"Under Your Spell," by Desire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K7rmxjk5RQ

"Nightcall," by Kavinsky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV_3Dpw-BRY

I KNOW.

  1. I might be the only one in the world who didn't love it. I felt it was more concerned with how cool it looked and sounded than with actually being about anything. Really, REALLY compelling for the first 30 minutes. And then Gosling turned from a driver into a ninja. And then he turned into something inhuman altogether. Like, I wanted to know what his deal was -- and it didn't seem like the director cared about that aspect at all. He was more interested in how pretty he could make red pieces of brain and skull look against a green motel bathroom wall (VERY, very pretty, I will give him that).

That "Real Hero" song though -- I don't know what it is but it's been stuck in my head. Reminds me of The Cranberries...
